Walleye Chronicles...We're Back

After taking Saturday and Sunday off due to rain, I hit the river in the early morning. I was totally stoked after finding some nice jumbo leeches. Walleyes and many other fish find the jumbo leech hard to resist!
Coffee tastes better on the river.

I prefer to use soft bodied floating jig heads and the orange and black color has proven deadly time and again. The floater stays off the bottom and really cuts down on snags.

Nothing spectacular to report although I landed a walleye 16" or 1.5 lbs which is perfect eating size. I may be mistaken for not using minnows. I set a minnow trap but crayfish invaded and slaughtered any minnows that may have been there.

Morning Walleye

I waited until evening and caught one more exactly the same size. It hit on my first cast and then nothing for 3 hours. The mosquitoes were horrendous. Had to wear a head net and surgical gloves because they ain't afraid of bug dope.

Evening Walleye
All in all, still a good day fishing with two decent walleyes in the freezer!
Let's see what Tuesday brings....
GONE FISHING.

I'm already there.
